DCC CSTEP Participated in the 2024 SURC Conference

The SUNY Undergraduate Research Conference (SURC) was held in Suffolk County Community College on April 26. SURC is an annual multidisciplinary event that brings together undergraduate students and faculty mentors from across the SUNY system for a full day of activities, including sessions devoted to student presentations, luncheon, keynote speakers, a SUNY Graduate School and Career Fair, and professional development workshops for students and faculty.

Two students, Jr Hill (LAX) and Kalegnon Dogba-Gobehi (ENR), represented DCC at the conference and presented their research work that was conducted under the mentorship of DCC faculty member Dr. Manish Jadhav. The conference was supported by the Offices of the Chancellor, Provost, and Research Foundation, as well as SUNY student and faculty governance organizations. The event was a great networking and academic enrichment opportunity, and the experience improves degree completion rates, career prospects, and readiness for transfer to four-year college. Both students graduated from DCC in May 2024.

DCC Students Participate in 29th Annual CSTEP Conference

Five CSTEP students and three staff members attended the 29th annual CSTEP Conference from April 14-16, 2023. The event provided students and staff with an opportunity to showcase and evaluate research, network, listen to engaging speakers, and participate in skill-building and enriching workshops. The conference was held, in person for the first time since 2019, at the Sagamore Resort near Lake George, New York. DCC was one of 52 New York colleges in attendance at the conference. DCC CSTEP students Latoyia McNabb (MLT), Ruth-Ann Gordon (LAX) and Christian Prosper (LAX) presented their research projects, which were all conducted in the summer of 2022.

Christian Prosper conducted research at Purchase College. His presentation, titled “Investigating the Presence of Aeromonas Salmonicida in Hatchery Biofilm,” was given via PowerPoint in the Natural Sciences category.

Ruth-Ann Gordon also conducted research at Purchase College. She entered the poster competition in the Natural Sciences category and presented “The Antifungal Properties of Sage Oil and Atlas Cedarwood Oil.”
