College Connection FAQs
Some people call it dual enrollment, dual credit or concurrent enrollment. We call it College Connection.
Questions and Answers About Concurrent Enrollment at DCC
The first question is easy to answer: When you sign up for College Connection at Dutchess Community College, you earn high school AND college credit for the same course – at your own high school.
If you're having trouble logging into your myDCC, whether you're unsure of your password or can't authenticate your account, please contact the Help Desk. They can be reached at (845) 431-8005 or at helpdesk@sunydutchess.edu.
As a DCC student, you are protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This is a federal law that prohibits anyone at DCC from disclosing information about your education (including but not limited to registration status, bill information, etc.) without your consent.
If you would like to provide your parents or guardians with access to your DCC records, you will be required to complete and submit a FERPA waiver with the Registrar’s Office. More information about this process can be found here or you may contact the Registrar at (845) 431-8020. Please know, even with a FERPA waiver completed, the information we are permitted to disclose via phone is limited.
College Connection classes are taught at your high school by your high school teacher. You learn alongside your high school classmates.
When you enroll as an Early Admit/Bridge student, you take classes on our campus or online, learning alongside college students.
The College Connection program is open to high school juniors or seniors.
To be eligible, you must:
- Meet the minimum placement requirements to register; AND
- Show a demonstrated readiness to take a college level course; AND
- Successfully complete prerequisite classes.
- Be at least 16 years or older at the start of the course
Dutchess Community College is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, and our programs are registered by the New York State Education Department.
We’re also seeking additional accreditation from the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP), a professional organization for high schools and colleges that fosters and supports rigorous concurrent enrollment.
Colleges in the State University of New York (SUNY) or City of New York (CUNY) systems accept DCC credits. They’ll appear on your permanent record; some courses may not align directly with your specific college major or degree.
Most other colleges accept DCC credits as well, although they may have conditions (e.g., a grade of C or better) or ask you to provide a course syllabus.
We highly recommend maintaining a complete portfolio of your College Connection course materials – the syllabus, all the work you produced during the course and any instructor handouts and notes.
