College Connection Info: For Parents

FERPA

As a College Connection student, your student is considered a DCC student and is thus protected by the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). FERPA is a federal law that prohibits anyone at DCC from disclosing information about a student’s education, including registration status or bill information, without their consent.

Consent must be provided by the student via a FERPA waiver in order for the College to be able to disclose information about their education. The FERPA waiver will specify who can have access to this information and what information can be shared with the specified individual. Please know that even with the waiver completed, the information the College is permitted to disclose via phone is limited.

For more information about this process, click here or contact the Registrar at (845) 431-8020 or registrar@sunydutchess.edu.

How to help your student

Participating in the College Connection program has many benefits to students, including an opportunity to understand and execute college expectations prior to graduating from high school. Your encouragement and support are key to ensuring your student is successful. You can support your student by:

  • Discussing key information and program expectations,
  • Highlighting deadlines and due dates,
  • Checking in on outstanding tasks, and/or
  • Encouraging them to become their own advocates and take the reigns on their educational journey!
