Accommodative Services

The Office of Accommodative Services (OAS) is committed to providing equal access and an inclusive campus community by providing accessibility services and advocacy for individuals with disabilities.

Getting Started

1. Submit a DCC admission application, following directions of Admissions Office for enrolling at DCC.
2. Complete the Student Accommodation Request Form. You will need your student identification number (A number). If you do not have this yet, please enter your first name, middle initial and last name.
3. Submit documentation of your disability/condition that substantially limits one or more major life activities. This might be an IEP/504 plan, psychoeducational evaluation, speech/language evaluation, documentation from a therapist, neurologist or other medical professional. Please review our documentation requirements. Please note: Do not wait to register with our office due to not having proper documentation. Complete the request form, and we will respond with information about next steps, which may include completing the Self-Assessment Survey.
4. Our interactive process includes gathering as much input from you as possible in addition to reviewing third party documentation. Once you complete the request form, we will reach out via email to discuss next steps, which will include a meeting to create an accommodation plan and share information about academic support services. These meetings are held for incoming students once they have registered for classes.

Student Services Include:

• Transition to college supports and programs.
• Classroom and testing accommodations/academic adjustments such as enlarged print, assistance with lecture capture strategies, interpreter services, assisted listening devices, and assistance with arrangements to make audio recordings of classes, extended test time.
• Alternate format of textbooks and class material.
• Sign language interpreters and remote captions services.
• Individualized academic support such as time management and organization, study skills, test and notetaking skills, adaptive tech training, and professional tutoring in a wide range of subjects and study strategies.
• Workshops/Group Work based on student need: study groups can be customized for a particular subject or desired training.
• Assistive Technology and training: screen readers and magnification, voice to text programs, amplification systems, CCTV, alternate text format.
• Advocacy and referrals.
• Advocacy for digital and physical accessibility.
• OAS is a National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) site.

To File a Complaint

Students who believe they are experiencing discrimination on campus may contact the ADA/Section 504 Coordinator in the Office of Human Resources.

If you are dissatisfied with the outcome of the grievance procedures, or wish to pursue an alternative to using these procedures, you may file a complaint against the school with the Office of Civil Rights: (File complaint with OCR)

Prospective students can email (oas@sunydutchess.edu) or fax (888-965-6996) documentation to OAS directly, documentation is kept confidential and if a student decides not to enroll at DCC, documentation will be purged from our records. Records will be purged following 7 years of inactivity. It is highly recommended that students maintain a copy of their documentation for future use.

After the initial intake, students request accommodation letters each subsequent semester, barring no changes, no appointment is necessary.
