Incoming Student Scholarships

A limited number of DCC scholarships, ranging from $500 - $6,000, are available to incoming students.

The application period opens in February and closes on May 31 each year. Scholarships awarded apply to the following fall semester.

Am I Eligible?

To be eligible to apply for a scholarship, you must meet these criteria:

1. Be a Dutchess County graduate: You must graduate in June from a New York state-approved high school in Dutchess County (or a high school designated by New York for Dutchess County residents) and be a Dutchess County resident.
2. Be ready for college-level English and math: You must be advised into college-level math and English based on placement test results, review of high school transcript and/or SAT/ACT results.
3. Have completed your FAFSA: You must apply for federal and state financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every academic year by June 1 if eligible.
4. Be a full-time DCC student: You must attend Dutchess Community College as a full- time student in the fall semester and all subsequent semesters. Scholarships greater than $500 will be paid out over two or more semesters.

What Else Must I Do?

• Write an essay: You must submit an essay, not to exceed 500 words, as outlined in each scholarship description.
• Provide a letter of recommendation: You must submit one professional letter of recommendation written by a high school teacher, guidance counselor, community member or another professional source such as an employer. Letters from friends or family members will not be considered. 
• Write a thank-you note: You must write a thank-you note to the scholarship donor if you are awarded one.
