Debt-Free College Is Possible

More than 65% of DCC students graduate with no student-loan debt. Our Student Financial Services team can guide you through the aid process. We’ll point you to grants, scholarships, and loans as needed.

Use financial aid to pay tuition, fees and other college costs. Some students receive aid to cover living and personal expenses, too.

All types of aid come with responsibilities. Attend classes, maintain your grades and meet other requirements to stay eligible for aid.

Types of Financial Aid

Federal Grants

Pell Grants and similar awards don’t require repayment. See if you qualify for grants or other federal programs like Work-Study.

Federal Direct Loans

Loans come in different types. All eventually require repayment, but some don’t charge interest while you’re in school. Learn about your options.

New York State Aid

Need-based programs for full- and part-time students cover tuition costs and don’t need to be repaid. Check your eligibility.

Scholarships

Scholarships for DCC students cover as much as full tuition. Unlike loans, they usually don’t need to be repaid. See options for new and returning students.

Conklin Scholarships

Conklin Scholarships cover two years of tuition for Dutchess County high school grads in the top 10% of their class. Learn more and apply.

Other Types of Aid

Active-duty military, veterans, Native Americans, children of deceased first responders, and others qualify for special aid programs.

Ready to see what’s possible? Complete the FAFSA, the free online form used by colleges to determine your financial need and aid eligibility.

When to Apply for Aid

Complete your federal FAFSA starting October 1. Apply for other aid as early as you can. Your financial aid is based on need, eligibility and available funds. Learn more about applying for aid.

Excelsior Scholarships

New York’s Excelsior Scholarships cover tuition for full-time students from families earning up to $125,000 per year. They’re a great opportunity.

Like other scholarships, they don’t require repayment as long as you follow all their guidelines. Be sure you understand the rules—Excelsior Scholarships convert to loans if you move out of state immediately after graduation.
