Shared Governance
DCC is committed to shared governance, a model that provides a structure for campus participation in planning, policy development and decision-making. In addition to the Board of Trustees and the College Administration, the following organizations participate in shared governance processes across DCC.
Professional Staff Organization (PSO)
This group makes recommendations and offers advisory opinions to the President and Board of Trustees on any and all matters affecting the educational program of the College, including but not limited to academic programs, academic policies, advising, and the role of faculty and staff in the decision-making process of the College.
Standing committees of the PSO address issues of Professional Development, Curriculum, Student Learning and Assessment, and the Educational Environment of the College. Each standing committee is comprised of staff, faculty members, and one Student Government Association representative.
Additionally, two councils of the PSO, the Instructional Staff Council and the Administrative Staff Council, meet regularly to discuss faculty concerns and administrative staff concerns, respectively.
Student Government Association (SGA)
The Student Government Association (SGA) provides students the opportunity to be active in campus and local communities. Members attend weekly meetings where they discuss various events, activities and issues, and participate in service projects, learn about the governance process and make new and lasting friendships. Involvement in SGA helps students become leaders as they gain confidence, practice collaboration and develop networking skills that will serve them for a lifetime. View SGA's constitution here.
Professional Service Alliance (PSA)
The Professional Service Alliance (PSA) serves as the trusted voice and unifying force for civil service and College Association employees at DCC. As a formal advisory body in the College’s shared governance, PSA advocates for equitable treatment, professional growth and workplace excellence. Through collaboration and active engagement, PSA enhances the work environment for employees and the learning environment for students. The PSA provides ideas and suggestions to the College president and Board of Trustees, making recommendations on matters affecting staff while fostering a thriving campus community. They have established sub-committees to focus on specific topics, ensuring that members' needs and contributions are fully represented and advanced within the College environment.
