Short-term programs provide a pathway to stable, well-paying technical careers

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — MARCH 7, 2025 — Dutchess Community College (DCC) invites prospective students to explore career-focused training at its upcoming Mechatronics Lab Open Houses at the Center of Excellence for Business, Industry & Innovation in Fishkill. Sessions will be held on Tuesday, March 18, and Wednesday, May 7, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The Mechatronics Lab provides hands-on training in advanced manufacturing, electrical systems, clean energy, automation and more—equipping students with highly transferable skills that prepare them for careers in high-demand fields. These skills are essential for maintaining and repairing equipment in industries such as aviation, energy, distribution and advanced manufacturing. During the open houses, attendees can:

  • Tour the state-of-the-art Mechatronics Lab and explore cutting-edge equipment
  • Meet instructors and staff who will explain diverse training options and career pathways in the Hudson Valley
  • Learn about flexible programs and opportunities, including:

    • Certified Production Technician Plus (CPT+) – Starts April 3
    • Manufacturing Pre-apprenticeship Program – Starts April 7
    • Entry-level SACA Industry 4.0 certifications
    • Skills-focused training in areas such as AC/DC electricity, motors, motor controls, pneumatics, mechanical drives, hydraulics, and more
    • Funding and scholarships

Developed in collaboration with local employers, DCC’s training programs align with industry needs, ensuring graduates are ready to enter the workforce. Instructor Mike Sikula, who teaches in the pre-apprenticeship program, emphasizes the strong demand for skilled workers and the benefits of a technical career:

“Mid-Hudson Valley manufacturers are looking for reliable, responsible employees, and those who have basic skills will be more in demand,” he said. “These are not just jobs—they are career paths that can lead to financial freedom, personal satisfaction and opportunities for personal growth.”
