Nursery School and Day Care

nursery school and day care

Dutchess Community College’s Lab Nursery School and Day Care Center have been providing enriching and engaging experiences for children for generations. Both facilities are located on the DCC main campus in the Town of Poughkeepsie and are led by highly experienced child care professionals.

Nursery School

Children in the lab nursery school, which is supervised by DCC faculty, are taught and cared for by college students pursuing a career in early childhood education. The classrooms are equipped with educational toys and areas for dramatic play, art, writing, math and science as well as quality children’s books. Outdoor play also is encouraged.

Any child 3-5 is eligible for the lab nursery school. (Children must be 3 by Sept. 1.) This is a five-morning/week program, with hours Monday-Friday, 9-11:45 a.m. during the fall and spring college semesters.

Day Care Center

For children ages 18 months to 5 years needing care for up to a full day, DCC’s Greenspan Day Care Center provides a wonderful learning and play environment. Programs for toddlers and preschoolers are available. The Center features areas for building blocks, dramatic play, art, games and puzzles, music, books and an indoor playroom and outdoor playground. Breakfast, snacks and a hot lunch are provided daily. All children are provided developmental screenings and assessment each year and parent-teacher conferences are held each semester. Children attending the Nursery School in the morning may attend the Day Care Center in the afternoon.

Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m.; closed Fridays during the summer. Children must be registered for specific time slots; drop-in care is not available.
