Q: What is the threshold for campus shutdown?
DCC continues to monitor conditions on campus as well locally, regionally and nationally. Any change in modality of instruction will be made in consultation with Dutchess County Department of Behavioral and Community Health and SUNY and will take into consideration levels of campus community transmission of COVID-19, vaccination coverage, local outbreaks and increasing trends.
Q: How will buildings and campus facilities be kept safe?
As part of regular campus building checks, campus safety officers will be monitoring mask compliance. Health-related questions will be posted at every entrance to encourage individuals to assess their health before entering the building or facility.
Q: What is being done about congestion in hallways and cafeteria?
As part of regular campus building checks, campus safety officers will monitor masking and social distancing compliance. Dining services have introduced a new ordering app to address congestion and wait times. Areas such as Student Financial Services have launched a new queueing app to limit wait time and congestion issues.
Q: It seems that accessibility concerns were not taken into account when closing entrances
Accessible routes were reviewed with the Office of Accommodative Services.
Q: What is the process for student vaccine exemptions? Will faculty/staff be informed
of exemption numbers?
Students pursuing for-credit studies may petition for a religious and medical exemption. Forms can be found on the What Students Need to Know webpage or under the Student tab in myDCC. Requests must be submitted to VaxExemptions@sunydutchess.edu or they will not be processed. Religious or medical exemptions for the spring 2022 semester will be accepted until Jan 2.
Students in credit-free programs may ask for a waiver from the vaccination requirement if they have a medical or religious exemption. Exemption forms are available on the What Students Need to Know page. Completed petitions from credit-free students should be sent to CFVaxexemption@sunydutchess.edu.
Due to privacy issues, faculty and staff will not be notified of exemption decisions.
Q: What do I do if a student tells me they have COVID-19?
Please tell the student to send an email to COVIDstatus@sunydutchess.edu.
Q: I am teaching for an extended period in the classroom. Do I have to wear a mask
the entire time?
Yes. Faculty must wear a mask when teaching. They can also wear a face shield as secondary protection over a mask.
Q: Do I have to wear a mask in my office?
You may remove your mask within the confines of your individual office space or cubicle, except when interacting with others in that space.
Q: When we talk about wearing a mask if we “engage with students directly,” what does
If you come into contact with students on a regular basis, you are encouraged to remain masked and maintain physical distance where practicable.
Q: What happens if a student doesn’t want to wear a mask? What are faculty obligations
and protections in assuring compliance to masking guidelines? Where should faculty/staff
report security concerns?
If a student does not comply with your repeated requests to wear a mask, please contact Campus Safety at x8070. A campus safety officer will escort the student from your classroom to the Office of Student Advocacy and Accountability. The non-compliance will be treated as a Student Code of Conduct violation.
Q: Regarding the wearing of badges. The guidelines encourage faculty, staff and students
to wear a DCC ID badge when on one of our campuses. How visible does the badge need
Badges should be worn in full view – either attached to an item of clothing, hung around the neck, or attached to the outside of a bag or backpack.
Q: What information is available regarding campus numbers?
SUNY is providing statistics on the COVID-19 case count at each SUNY campus. For more, visit the SUNY COVID-19 tracker website.
Q: What if I contract COVID-19?
Faculty and staff should send an email to COVIDstatus@sunydutchess.edu. If you are able, please contact your supervisor to advise them of your absence as well.
