Annual Summer Piano Institute MUX 800 AGES 6-14
(4-day summer piano immersion)
The Summer Piano Institute is for students of all levels, from beginners taking their first lesson to highly advanced piano students. Students have an opportunity to work with a variety of highly skilled instructors during the four days. Curriculum includes individual and group lessons, ensembles, composition, improvisation and much more. Students are grouped by age and ability level. Students and their families receive free admission to a faculty concert on Wednesday, July 11 at 2 p.m. Morning and afternoon music-related childcare may be arranged at an additional fee. Songwriting Week NEW! MUX 772 AGES 12-17
(5-day music immersion)
Songwriting Week is a program designed to give students a foundation in writing songs in different musical genres, including pop-rock, folk, country, punk, and hip-hop. During the week, students will learn how to write song lyrics and music in the style of each genre, and these songs will be workshopped in both peer and individual settings. Students will have the option to use both acoustic and digital instrumentation. The program will culminate in an “open mic” performance on Friday 7/20 at 1:30 p.m., in which the students will perform two of their favorite songs for their friends and family. Musicians and songwriters of all experience levels are welcome! Morning and afternoon music-related childcare may be arranged at an additional fee.

Annual Performing Arts Institute MUX 777 AGES 7-17
Students will gain valuable life skills while learning the fundamentals of theatre: acting, dancing and singing. Our fun, varied activities will culminate in a costumed production on the second Friday afternoon of each two week session. The Friday 2 p.m. shows on 7/27 and 8/10 are free and open to all. Activities include theatre games, improvisation, scene study, musical theater, various dance styles, choral and solo singing, and optional playwriting. Students ages 7-17 may register for one or both of the following two-week all-day sections. Participants grouped by age. Morning and afternoon music-related childcare may be arranged at an additional fee. Institute is held in the James and Betty Hall Theatre in Dutchess Hall.
