VOCAL



MUX 613      VOCAL TECHNIQUE (AGES 14 TO ADULT)

(6 Sessions) Good vocal technique begins with the fundamentals.  Create a voice with a firm foundation that can take you in any direction and singing any kind of music you prefer.  In an atmosphere of safety and respect, together we will work on the breathing and body support that will inform your singing for the rest of your life.  Tone, placement, flexibility and resonance will be covered.  Learning to use your voice to its greatest range, expression, and beauty, we will also work on style, interpretation and stage presence in the context of healthy, dependable vocal technique.  Beginners to advanced singers are welcome.

MUX 154      SATURDAY SONGWRITING FOR TEENS (AGES 12 TO 17)

(6 Sessions) Students will create original song lyrics and accompaniment, and will also learn to work together to accompany each other’s original songs. This class focuses on editing, music theory, and the analysis of popular songs. In-class recitals take place on 3/7 from 5:30-6:30 p.m., and on 4/18 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Students of all levels welcome!

PIANO

 

MUX 804      PIANO ENSEMBLE (AGES 12 to ADULT)

(6 Sessions) In this group class, students will prepare piano ensemble repertoire for performance. Students of varying levels are welcome, including intermediate and advanced players. Each student will have access to their own piano during the class session. A combination of performance skills, listening skills, and expressive techniques will be emphasized. Students will learn how to perform using a collaborative approach to the piano. The class will culminate in a recital open to the public. Strong music reading skills encouraged.

MUX 775      HISTORY OF AMERICAN MUSICAL THEATRE (AGES 14 TO ADULT)

(6 Sessions) This course explores all four eras of Musical Theatre (Pre-Golden Age, Golden Age, Post-Golden Age, Modern), the social and cultural change reflected in artists’ works, and its evolution through the twenty-first century. All levels of knowledge are welcome! Experience Broadway in all its forms.
