Commercial Drone Operator

Interested in getting your FAA Remote Pilot Certificate for small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) - drones? This course will prepare you for the FAA Part 107 aeronautical knowledge test, a necessary step in obtaining a license to fly your drone commercially in the United States. You will explore topics such as federal aviation regulations, aviation weather services, weather effects on performance, loading and performance, radio communications, airport operations, aeronautical decision-making, and maintenance and inspections.

The required text for this course is the Gleim Remote Pilot FAA Knowledge Test Prep - 3rd Edition.

In order to become a pilot, you must:

  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Be able to read, speak, write, and understand English
  • Be in a physical and mental condition to safely fly a drone
  • Pass the initial aeronautical knowledge exam

This 18-hour course does not include hands-on drone operating experience. You will be expected to dedicate out-of-class time to study the course material in between sessions. Upon completion of this course, you will be eligible to take the FAA Part 107 certification exam. You must independently register and pay an additional fee to take the FAA exam. These services are not included, but the instructor will review how to register for the exam as part of the course.
