Public Health

Gain the knowledge and skills to become a leader in the health profession by helping improve and protect the health of people and communities.

Public health plays an essential role in ensuring the wellness of entire communities. From providing health education and improving health outcomes to identifying and monitoring disease, public health professionals perform a range of functions that can have lasting and far-reaching impacts. And, with the COVID-19 pandemic shining a spotlight on public health, the demand for skilled public health professionals is growing.

DCC’s program, which incorporates online and in-person classes, will give you the skills to protect the health of populations and promote wellness habits and behaviors. Designed specifically for students who intend on furthering their studies, DCC’s program can help you make a real and significant impact on public health - at the community level or across the globe.

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Educate and empower people regarding health issues and challenges.

  • Explore and examine health issues and health hazards in individuals and communities.

  • Identify and investigate risk factors and modes of transmission for infectious and chronic diseases and how these diseases affect both personal and population health.

  • Analyze ethical concerns and conflicts of interest that arise in the field of public health.

  • Develop plans and policies that help individual and community health initiatives.

Graduates of public health programs are in high demand in today’s job market. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 4.6 million new healthcare positions by 2028 – including 3.4 million new jobs projected in healthcare and social assistance. Earning potential, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, could run from median annual wages of $104,280 for medical health and services managers to $56,500 for health educators to $42,000 for community health worker positions.
