The Department of Performing, Visual Arts and Communications offers courses in the
areas of Art, Music, Theatre, Speech, and Communications and Media Arts. The Department
currently has 13 full-time faculty and is augmented by a staff of approximately 40
part-time lecturers.
Student work from the PVAC Department is shown regularly on- and off-campus in numerous
shows and competitions. The Washington Art Gallery holds student exhibits twice a
year; the COM program shows student work to the campus community once a semester;
and the Performing Arts program allows for numerous opportunities for students to
show their talent on stage in plays, vocal concerts, orchestral concerts, and dance
concerts.
Gabrielle Johnson, a 2020 graduate in the Visual Arts Transfer Program, has been awarded
an Honorable Mention at the Best of SUNY Exhibition held in Albany. Every year SUNY
System Administration holds exhibitions highlighting artwork by art students across
the state. The work is then juried and the best are chosen for another exhibition
in the summer, and awards are given from that group. The drawing that Gabrielle exhibited,
a self-portrait, was her Drawing 1 class final with Professor Lindsey Guile.
