What are Microcredentials?
At the most basic level, Microcredentials verify, validate, and attest that specific
skills and/or competencies have been achieved. They differ from traditional degrees
and certificates in that they are generally offered in shorter or more flexible timespans
and tend to be more narrowly focused. Microcredentials can be offered online, in the
classroom, or via a hybrid of both.
Our Microcredentials all provide coursework that would count towards a degree, but
students aren’t required to be enrolled in a degree program to earn the credential.
Any Microcredentials that you earn at DCC will appear on your official DCC transcript,
and you will also earn a “Digital Badge” that will allow you to share your achievement
with potential employers on professional networking sites.
DCC is proud to offer the microcredentials listed below. Click here for Microcredentials flyer.

Small Business Management
Are you a small business owner or entrepreneur who is looking to enhance your skills
and grow your business? Dutchess Community College has introduced a suite of accelerated
classes designed for busy professionals who know that understanding the business of
business is critical to success. Classes start January 13!
In just two consecutive seven-week sessions, you can complete three courses through
a special online/on-site opportunity that will equip you with the skills necessary
to increase your effectiveness in today’s business environment. The courses – Foundations of Business (BUS 102), Principles of Marketing (BUS 107) and Small
Business Management (BUS 208) – will provide a solid framework to support your professional
goals and expand your knowledge of fundamentals including legalities, financing, accounting,
market segmentation, franchising, pricing, consumer behavior, Internet opportunities
and social responsibility.
As part of this unique hybrid program, you will take BUS 102 and BUS 107 concurrently
at the Poughkeepsie campus on Monday and Wednesday evenings for the first seven weeks,
and then BUS 208 on Monday evenings for the second seven weeks. In-class instruction
will be complemented by online coursework that offers flexibility and convenience.
Traditional 15-week online and on-site options also are available for those who wish
to take the courses one at a time, at a slower pace.
In addition to receiving a digital badge as evidence of your completion of the Small
Business Management credential, you will earn nine college credits that are applicable
to an associate degree in Business Administration or Business Management, should you
wish to continue your higher education.
Tuition and fees for each course total $593; textbooks will be purchased separately
at additional cost.
