DCC Sing-a-Thon, Play-a-Thon to Benefit MusicLink Scholarship Fund Release date: July 15, 2008
Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The Dutchess Community College Music School’s Second Annual Sing-a-Thon/Play-a-Thon will be held from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, August 2 in the James and Betty Hall Theatre in Dutchess Hall on DCC’s main campus in Poughkeepsie. The event will serve as a fundraiser for the College’s MusicLink Scholarship Fund, which provides professional music instruction to economically disadvantaged children Student groups, professional musicians, young children, and DCC faculty members will perform both vocal and instrumental pieces. The program will begin with a bagpipes performance featuring Janet Whalen, bagpipes teacher, with members of the Amerscot Highland Pipe Band. In addition, DCC Music School accompanist Kumiko Imamura will perform with any singer or musician who so desires. She will be available to rehearse between 1 and 2 p.m. prior to the performance. Singers and instrumentalists in the community are invited to perform, and can reserve a place in the program by calling the DCC Music School at 845-431-8916. Money will be raised to support MusicLink through supporters who will pledge an amount to sponsor a performance. Admission is free and open to the public. Founded in 1957, Dutchess Community College is a two-year community college with more than 50 years of service to the residents of Dutchess County. It is part of the State University of New York and is one of 30 community colleges in the state system. The College offers a wide variety of associate degree programs, as well as career programs in major technical, human service and business areas. The College also offers non-credit courses through its Office of Community Services to meet the continuing education needs of civic, cultural, business and professional groups and the community at large. The main campus is at 53 Pendell Road in Poughkeepsie, while the Dutchess South extension site is in Hollowbrook Park, Building #4 at 31 Marshall Road in Wappingers Falls.
