SUNY NY-Alert Initiative Allows DCC Students, Faculty, Staff to Quickly Learn
of Emergencies

Release date: July 23, 2008

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – Students, staff, and faculty members at Dutchess Community College now have the ability to be notified almost immediately of any campus emergency.

The SUNY NY-Alert system is a web-based emergency alert service that warns students, faculty, and staff of an impending emergency such as severe weather, and relates information and instructions about any other campus incident that could threaten the safety of students and staff. Messages are relayed through email, home telephone, cell phone, text messages, voice messaging, and fax.

Participants are required to submit contact information to be registered for the service. DCC students, staff, and faculty members can do so by clicking the link on their MyDCC web page. The system went live on the DCC campus at the beginning of the Spring 2008 semester. Students, staff, and faculty who do not register will not be able to receive the emergency alerts, so participation is strongly encouraged.

For more information about the SUNY NY-Alert system, call Bridgette Anderson at 845-431-8655.

The College reviewed different emergency notification options and selected the SUNY NY-Alert system, which not only performed very well in tests carried out in the summer of 2007, but comes with no cost to DCC.
