The Circulation Department is responsible for the lending of books, the reserve collection, microform services, photocopy services, and the maintenance of the book collection. The Circulation Desk is located in the main lobby of the library. For further information about any of the following items, contact Ron Crovisier, crovisie@sunydutchess.edu (845) 431-8642.

Borrowing Privileges
Currently enrolled Dutchess Community College students, faculty and staff will be given borrowing privileges upon presentation of a valid DCC SUNYCard Photo-ID. DCC Alumni wishing to borrow books should bring proof of current address when applying for borrowing privileges. If you still have your expired student SUNYCard Photo-ID, we can convert that card to alumni status in our circulation system. If you do not have a SUNYCard, we will give you an application for one. Generally, you will be able to obtain a new card and borrow books with only one trip to campus. Open Access borrowing may be granted to currently enrolled students, faculty and staff of other State University of New York institutions (including Empire State College) upon presentation of proof of address and a valid photo-id from the home institution.
Adult residents of Dutchess and Putnam counties may be eligible for borrowing privileges. Certain restrictions apply. Contact Ron Crovisier, crovisie@sunydutchess.edu ( 845) 431-8642for more information.

Loan Period
Books may normally be borrowed for two weeks. Reference books, reserve materials, magazines, newspapers and certain hard-to-replace materials are to be used only in the library. Some books in our collection are housed at the DCC South extension site. These books are for in-house use only, and may not be checked out.

Renewals
Books may be renewed in person or by phone ((845) 431-8639) as long as no one else has requested them. Books labeled "Hot Topic" or "Juvenile" are not renewable. Books will generally not be renewed past the last due date of each semester.

Returns

Please return books to the Circulation Desk when the library is open. Books with fines or other charges should be returned at the Circulation Desk in the library whenever possible.

Outside book returns located at the Creek Road entrance and the main entrance to Hudson Hall across from Bowne Hall will be checked twice daily Monday through Friday.  If you plan to borrow more books on the same day, please return items to the Circulation Desk in the library.  When the library is closed books will be checked in as if returned on the last day the library was open.

Holds (Reserving a Book)
If you need a book that is currently checked out, you may reserve the book so that it cannot be renewed by the patron to whom it is currently checked out. The book will be set aside for you upon its return, and you will be contacted by phone or mail.

Fines
Overdue fines are calculated at 10 cents per day per book, including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Overdue notices are sent as soon as books are past due.

Lost or Damaged Books
If you have lost or damaged a book, please notify us as soon as possible. The minimum charge for each lost book is $35.00 plus fines. Some books of greater value will be assessed at a higher rate. Damaged books will be assessed on an individual basis. A book damaged beyond repair will be treated as a lost book. Any books not returned at the end of the semester will be considered lost and your college account will be charged accordingly.

Please contact Ron Crovisier, crovisie@sunydutchess.edu at (845) 431-8642 about these charges.

Course Reserves
Using Reserve Readings:

Books and articles assigned as required or suggested reading by instructors, as well as any course textbooks, are located at the Circulation Desk. A valid DCC SUNYCard Photo-ID must be presented to use reserve materials. Because these materials are in high demand, special conditions apply. Only one item at a time may be borrowed, and it may be used for one hour. Reserve items must remain in the library. However, patrons are free to make photocopies, observing copyright regulations.

Placing Items on Reserve:
Faculty wishing to place items on reserve should contact Johann Lettieri, lettieri@sunydutchess.edu, ext. 8632 or Ron Crovisier, crovisie@sunydutchess.edu ext. 8642 to determine whether the material meets copyright guidelines. Most, but not all, required textbooks are automatically placed on reserve.

Photocopies
Self-service copy machines are located on both floors of the library. A Debitek Cash-to-Card machine is available. Copies are 15 cents per page when using coins, or 10 cents per page with the use of the Debitek system, whereby you may place even dollar amounts on your SUNYCard Photo-ID for use in the photocopiers. If you are not a member of the College community requiring you to have a SUNYCard, you may purchase a Debitek card in the copy room for one dollar.

SUNYCard Photo-ID
Every library patron must have a SUNYcard in order to borrow books or use reserve materials. This card is linked to our circulation system, making it necessary for the patron to have this particular card in order to be entered in our files.
