Faculty are encouraged to use computer classrooms for classroom instruction generating writing and conducting discussions through DIWE (Daedalus Integrated Writing Environment) and Angel. Most English classes use the Hudson 501, 504, and 506 computer classrooms. Teachers typically have students working on various assignments in Microsoft Word, or they use Daedalus software to support a “networked classroom” with synchronous conversation and e-mail boards for the exchange of papers. Those who would like to schedule a weekly class period in a computer classroom must notify the department chair when initial teaching assignments are made. Faculty can expect the Writing Center’s teaching lab assistant to help with initial training software and when problems arise with hardware and the campus network, but they should, in general, become familiar with the software they are requiring students to use.
