Assistant Librarian, Head of Access Services
The Dutchess Community College Library invites applications for an Assistant Librarian
, Head of Access Services. Reporting to the Library Director, the successful candidate will participate in the hiring, training, and supervision of circulation/reserves, microforms, and the media collection, teach information literacy sessions, and serve as a liaison to two academic departments. The successful candidate will also be responsible for collection management, including inventory, repairs, and collection analysis. The candidate will be familiar with current practices for copyright compliance, including print and electronic course reserves, and current automated trends in access services.
The successful candidate will have a strong user-centered vision, and will be expected to participate in the Library’s public services activities, including service at the reference desk. Other duties include: serving as a liaison to at least two academic departments, serving on college committees, teaching occasional information literacy courses, and interacting with other offices on campus.
The regular hours for this position are 1-9pm, Monday through Thursday and 9-5 on Friday. During intersessions and summers, the hours will be 9-5. This is a year-round appointment. The anticipated starting date is November 3rd or as soon thereafter as possible.
Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS; demonstrated experience overseeing an automated circulation system; experience with a multimedia collection; knowledge of copyright policies and practices in an academic setting; and experience working with diverse clientele.
Preferred: Experience working with the ExLibris Aleph 500 system; experience working with Banner; demonstrated ability to coordinate and supervise the work of others; demonstrated ability to conceive and implement long-term strategies and achieve short-term goals; demonstrated ability to analyze work processes and introduce appropriate technological solutions; excellent communication and problem-solving skills;and experience working in collaborative/joint library or college ventures. Demonstrated ability to work in a collective bargaining environment is a plus.
