INNOVATIVE TRAINING PROGRAMS 2005/2006
The Office of Community Services takes pride in developing innovative responses to the training needs of companies and other organizations. Each year we have shared what we feel are some unique programs from the previous year. This past year (2005-2006) DCC delivered 136 programs throughout its geographic service area. Though each program was important to its clientele, three can be considered innovative.
Enhanced Certified Nursing Assistant Training for Luthern Care
DCC, Luthern Care Center at Concord Village, and 1199 Health Care Workers Union worked together to create a 40 hour personal and professional skill building course for all the Certified Nursing Assistant staff at the Luthern Care Center.
The curriculum was designed to build skills which support Luthern Care’s philosophy and culture of encouraging teamwork to best serve its clients. The curriculum was designed with input from the employees, management and, of course, DCC and its instructor. Over 75 CNA’s will complete the training program by November 2006. The program, taught by Ellen Messer, culminates with each team presenting team projects to Luthern Care management as to how to improve the work environment and client services at Luthern Care.
IBM-East Fishkill –
Operations Management and IE Principles in a Lean Manufacturing Environment
IBM-East Fishkill has created a 12 module training program to enhance the skills of manufacturing personnel at IBM’s 300mm Operations in Fishkill. The entire program covers nearly 120 hours of classroom instruction. DCC is responsible for 8 of the instructional programs covering all aspects of Lean Manufacturing, Team Dynamics, Problem Solving and Decision Making and Statistical Process Control. At this writing over 50 workers have completed the entire 120 hour program. One special aspect of the program is that DCC contracts with the Rochester Institute of Technology’s Lean Enterprise Institute to provide nearly 40 hours of Lean Manufacturing education.
Dutchess County’s Certificate in Management Development
The Dutchess County Personnel Department, County Executive’s Office, and DCC’s Office of Community Services have developed a comprehensive 60 hour Certificate in Management for county workers. The program combined 30 hours of required core programs with 30 hours of elective programs. County departmental supervisors from throughout the entire county government are eligible to participate. The program is designed to upgrade the skills of supervisory personnel. Topics include Fundamentals of Supervision, Effective Business Communication, Time Management, Building Quality Work Teams and many others. Currently 50 employees have participated in the classes.
