Tenure Track Position for Assistant Professor and Chairperson of Early Childhood and Elementary Education Program

The Department of Behavioral Science at Dutchess Community College invites applications for a Full-Time Faculty/Chairperson position in the Early Childhood and Elementary Education Program. This opening is a tenure track position with an expected start date in August of 2015.

Minimum qualifications include a master’s degree in Early Childhood; direct teaching experience in child care, nursery school and/or early childhood (birth – second grade); conceptual and direct experience with Developmentally Appropriate Practice as described by NAEYC and college teaching experience preferably at the community college level.

Preference will be given to those with experience in working with the requirements of a Laboratory School and demonstrated leadership and experience supervising staff. Preferred candidates should also be able to demonstrate an understanding of the role of assessment in course and program development and knowledge of e-folio assessment. Candidates should have experience in using instructional technology in classroom or online adaptations and a willingness to adopt new and emerging technologies. An appreciation for diversity of all types and how diversity impacts learning and instruction is required.  

As the Program Chair, the preferred candidate will be responsible for interviewing and assigning adjunct instructors and field supervisors as needed; Program Staff evaluations/reviews; coordination with Lab Nursery Staff to assure alignment of academic and field experiences; oversight of the ECH (A.A.S. in Early Childhood), ECC (Certificate in Early Childhood) Programs, assuring their relevance to graduates and the employers in the community; oversight of the EED (A.S., Jointly Registered Program with SUNY New Paltz) and the EET (A.S., B-2/1-6 Transfer to all SUNY Colleges) Programs, assuring their compliance with the articulation agreements; as well as budget management for the Program and the Laboratory Nursery.

Tenure Track Position in Accounting

Preference will be given to candidates with a C.P.A. designation, as well as to candidates with extensive experience using QuickBooks, Sage-Peachtree, and/or similar accounting software packages on a regular basis. Tenure Track Position in Criminal Justice

The Department of Behavioral Sciences at Dutchess Community College invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in criminal justice with an expected start date in August of 2015. 

Minimum qualifications include an earned master’s degree in criminal justice, or an appropriate sub-discipline of criminal justice, and other relevant, prior professional experience. 

The ability to teach in the following areas is necessary: issues and trends in terrorism intervention, field-based criminal investigations, computer-based crime, digital forensics, standard criminal justice offerings, and other general education areas served by the department. The successful candidate will be expected to advise undergraduate students and be involved in program area, college, and community service. In addition, participation in professional organizations related to criminal justice is desired. We seek candidates who have a professional background in criminal justice or a closely related field, with a concentration in both local law enforcement and federal investigation. Some evening and/or off campus teaching may be required.

Tenure Track Position in English Composition and Literature

The Department of English and Humanities at Dutchess Community College invites applications for a full-time faculty position in English composition and literature. Expected start date is August of 2015. 

Minimum qualifications include an earned Master of Arts in English (with coursework in both composition and literature preferred) or a closely related master’s degree and at least two years of college-level teaching experience in the field. Additional relevant graduate work or a relevant doctorate and/or additional classroom experience would greatly enhance a candidacy. 

Teaching responsibilities will include developmental and first-year composition courses and may include second-year literature and writing courses.

Tenure Track Position in Nursing

The Department of Nursing at Dutchess Community College invites applications for a faculty position in nursing. This opening is a tenure track position with an expected start date in August of 2015.

Minimum qualifications include an earned master’s degree (terminal degree preferred) in nursing or nursing education, a license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York state, and current medical - surgical experience.

The position involves teaching a variety of nursing courses, which will include both classroom and clinical instruction in an integrated nursing curriculum. Teaching assignments may include medical-surgical and psychiatric topics. Scheduling may involve evening assignments and clinical courses may not be limited to the immediate Poughkeepsie area. Knowledge of curriculum development, test construction, course and program assessment and accreditation, prior teaching experience, and possession of strong clinical skills are necessary to fulfill this position.

Tenure Track Position in Music/Theatre

The Department of Performing, Visual Arts and Communications at Dutchess Community College invites applications for a tenure track position in music/theatre. The expected start date is August of 2015.

Minimum qualifications include an earned MFA, MM, or MME in vocal music or musical theatre; college level teaching experience; musical and vocal direction experience; and the ability to accompany on the piano. Theatrical choir directing experience and professional experience outside the academic arena are also desired. The typical teaching responsibility is five courses per semester and may include classes in history of musical theatre, music theory, aural skills, voice production, performing skills for the classroom, directing the college’s two choirs, and serving as the vocal music director for the college’s musical play productions. There is a possibility of an evening course assignment, giving private vocal lessons, and supervising private lesson adjunct instructors in music.

The Department of Performing, Visual Arts and Communications at Dutchess Community College invites applications for a tenure track position in speech. The expected start date is August of 2015.

Minimum qualifications include an earned master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in speech or an area of oral communication, college level teaching experience, and relevant work experience.

The typical teaching responsibility is five courses per semester and may include courses in Foundations of Communication, Public Speaking, Argumentation and Persuasion, Dynamics of Discussion, Communication Theory, Effective Listening, Interviewing to Get the Job, and possibly Oral Interpretation of Literature. There is a possibility of an evening course assignment, and advising a college debate team. The position includes service on department and college committees, student advisement, updating and assessment of speech courses, active professional development and activity, and possibly supervision of speech adjunct instructors.
